It began when I was pregnant with my daughter. I convinced myself that I was supposed have food cravings, and late at night I would send my then husband to McDonald’s for a cheese burger, French fries and a large coke. It was a nightly ritual! And soon I ballooned to over 180 pounds – my daughter at birth weighed just over 5 pounds! That was the start of my unhealthy relationship with food, and dieting since then to get back to my ideal healthiest weight has been a constant part of my life.
But I am happy to report, I have finally found an eating style that is producing the weight loss results I am after. Gone are the endless guilt trips around what I was feeding myself. Gone are the yo-yo, never ending restrictive diets. I have released the food demons, and I no longer soothe myself with unhealthy food choices!
My weight loss success finally materialized when I took an honest look at myself. I had to address the areas of my life that left me depleted and overwhelmed. I had to identify my unhealthy triggers, find my purpose and realign with all the reasons to take care of myself. Most importantly, I had to find things that brought me more pleasure than the temporal satisfaction that food provides. In truth, I completely overhauled my mindset!
This shift didn’t happen overnight, and truth be told I am still on the journey to be my fittest self. Please remember that there is no magic pill, or quick fix to becoming fit and healthy. You have to do the daily work that self-care demands. Your fitness and health journey has to be a lifetime endeavor!
