Lose Weight by Getting Comfortable with the Uncomfortable

You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along. You must do the thing you think you cannot do. – Eleanor Roosevelt

Just a few minutes into my stationary bike ride this morning and I could already feel my heart pumping. It wouldn’t be long into the workout, and my muscles would also start feeling the tension of the exertion. I tried not to watch the timer on the bike. Somehow it just made the ride harder. I had one hour of cardio to accomplish. Lord, give me the strength I muttered with a gasped breath!

Exercise can be easy if you just go through the motions, take long rest breaks between exercises, and cut the workout short. But I want more of myself that comes from saying no to the easy way! I want to transform my obese physique into one that is svelte, healthy and fit – a model for all to follow!

The truth of the matter is this: I’m going to have to learn and implement something important to realize my weight loss goal – and that is, I have to get comfortable with the uncomfortable. My body is only going to adapt if I stress it appropriately! That means sweating. That means weight training to failure. It means bringing a level of intensity to each workout that is not for the faint of heart!

I don’t want an average physique. I want to lose weight so that I turn heads! I want to inspire those all around me that want more of themselves. I want to be a weight loss expert because I can relate to all that it takes to overcome obesity. And most of all, I want to honor my Lord by taking care of the body He gave me!

All these compelling weight loss reasons fuel my journey. They get me through the tough workouts, and give me courage to endure the sacrifice that comes from restricting calories.

The fear of being uncomfortable is something that has to be mastered if any ambition is to be realized. Your journey may not be a weight loss one. Maybe you are striving with all your might to reach other goals. No matter the endeavor, it takes facing fear head on and conquering the mental attitude of being a slave to it!

Decide that you want it more than you are afraid of it. -Bill Cosby
