Sacrifice! It is an Integral Part of a Weight Loss Journey

Wednesday is such a special day for me. It is a day of the week that fills me with so much joy and expectation. This is the day that I meet with 5-8 of my church friends at one of their homes for fellowship and Bible study. Currently, we are deep into the book of Ephesians.

Fellowship involves sharing our personal stories over a meal. Everyone is gracious enough to bring a dish to share. Often homemade sweets and savory delicacies. There is no shortage of food to go around. But my weight loss journey has me making sacrifices this day. Heavy, calorie dense foods are just not on my diet – even as delicious as the food looks – so I don’t indulge. Instead, I bring my protein drink, and smile with each sip as I know I am prioritizing my health and fitness.

Saying no to non-diet foods comes easy to me. The sacrifice is not hard to make, for the taste of having an elite physique far supersedes any treat that might be in arms reach. I watch my friends indulging, and inwardly I am chuckling the whole time as I know I am showing a strength and commitment that most people lack. My goals are just not their goals, and there is no judgement here!

“Sacrifice is a part of life. It’s supposed to be. It’s not something to regret. It’s something to aspire to.” ― Mitch Albom, The Five People You Meet in Heaven So if you are on a weight loss journey – or any journey of notable cause – I implore you to embrace the inevitable sacrifices you will need to make. Yes, it will stretch your comfort zone, but if you want success, health and fitness to be a cornerstone of your life, I have faith that you will find a way!
